Recovering Tohoku region stages Okinawa Exhibition

Date Posted: 2012-06-22

Japan’s northeastern region is bouncing back from the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami of March 11th last year, venturing out across the country to stage product exhibitions to let everyone know life is improving.

The Tohoku Products Exhibition is now open in Okinawa’s Ryubo Department Store, an exhibition featuring 49 shops from six prefectures in the footprint of the great earthquake. The exhibition on the Ryubo sixth floor runs through June 25th 10:30 a.m. ~ 7:30 p.m. daily. The Tohoku exhibition will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, the final day.

Cherries from Yamagata, which produce the sweetest taste of the year, will be featured both as juice and wines. Apples fro Aomori Prefecture, tomatoes and asparagus from Fukushima Prefecture, seafood bento lunch boxes from Fukushima, and Hatahata nigiri from Akita will be available. There’s also beef tongue from Miyagi, a saury from Iwate, and sweets and crafts.

The exhibition even features mainland entertainment. Hula dancers from Spa Resort Hawaiians in Fukushima will perform on Saturday and Sunday. Support for this exhibition goes to benefit victims of the disaster area.
