Okinawa teen charged with making bomb threat

Date Posted: 2012-06-15

An Okinawa teen has confessed to charges he made a bomb threat in mainland Japan.

The 18-year-old Okinawa City youth has been charged by the Metropolitan Police Department Akasaka Police with forcible obstruction of business earlier this month because he posted a notice on an internet bulletin board called ‘2ch’ claiming he’d set a bomb at Yahoo offices.

“I have set up a bomb at Yahoo”, he posted on the 2ch site from his personal computer at his home on April 1st, forcing Yahoo to strengthen its corporate security. Akasaka Police say the boy admitted making the threat, saying “I was interested in what kind of reaction 2ch users would give to me. I had just thought about Yahoo.” The teen told police he wrote explosion notices to more than 50 other companies, including Google.

The Metropolitan Police Department Akasaka Police picked up on the threat because of anonymous information gathered by its offices. The boy told police he didn’t think any police investigation could identify him.
