Aircraft, music, fun slated for Futenma Flightline Fair

Date Posted: 2012-06-15

Summertime means summer fun on Okinawa, and the annual Marine Corps Air Station Futenma Flightline Festival that was postponed to the weekend of June 30~July 1 due to approaching typhoon Guchol, promises to get things rolling with plenty of fun.

As the summer heat waves roll in, the Futenma Flightline Fair celebrates with cool treats and free admission to the aviation world. This year’s Flightline Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. both days. This festival is open to service members, their families and the Okinawa community, to partake in all the festivities over the weekend. The festival, as always, will offer festival favorites for all ages, including interactive game booths as well as delicious cultural foods like yakitori, along with a variety of grilled foods, American staples such as sizzling burgers and pizza, and summer sweets such as ice cream and ice-cold drinks.

Festival-goers interested in military aircraft will also have ample access to props and wings. Static displays showcasing the best of Marine Corps aviation are slated to include both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. Daytime and evening entertainment will fill the festival.

MCCS Entertainment will bring all sorts of acts—dance, music, and more—to grace the main stage on both days. KiddieLand will host a vast selection of bouncers and rides as well as a gymkhana motorsport event and car show Sunday from 2 p.m. ~ 7 p.m.
A sparkling display of fireworks will finish off the festival with a bang on Sunday night at 8:15 p.m.

Admission to the Futenma Flightline Festival is free and open to all SOFA status personnel, as well as to local nationals. No one will be admitted with pets, bottles, outside alcohol or coolers. Free shuttle buses will provide transportation to and from designated parking lots on the base. As always, MCCS encourages everyone to drink responsibly; Daiko and taxi services will be available.
