China blasts Tokyo’s governor as “irresponsible” on SenkakusDate Posted: 2012-06-08 Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara unveiled his idea for buying three of the five uninhabited Senkaku Islands in April, and already, more than ¥1 billion has been contributed by citizens who like his idea of protecting Japanese land from the Chinese. Ishihara has told reporters Beijing wants to control the islands, which China calls Diaoyu, as part of a diabolic scheme for controlling the entire pacific. With that in mind, Ishihara launched his drive to buy the islands from a Japanese landowner. China, meanwhile, calls the governor “irresponsible”, labeling his plan similar to locking doors to keep a burglar out. “Some Japanese politicians have been making petty moves to try to make trouble,” says Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin, “but their actions will not alter the fact that these islands belong to China.” Liu says “the willful words and actions of some Japanese politicians are irresponsible moves that smear the image of Japan.” The islands have been in the news since late 2010 when a Chinese trawler captain was arrested by Japan’s Coast Guard for ramming two of its patrol vessels. Japan ultimately released the captain. |
