Market gives chance to prepare summer gardens

Date Posted: 2012-06-08

The Okinawa City Flower Gardening Production Association is ready to kick off a 10-day market to get those with a green thumb all fired up about flower gardening and creating a community brimming with flowers and plants.

The Association, together with the Okinawa Times Company, is staging the 2012 Okinawa City Early Summer Big Pot Plant Market Friday through June 17th at the Okinawa City Farmers’ Training Center special space. Admission is free.

Open daily 9 a.m. ~ 6 p.m., the market will be exhibiting plants and flowers from the Okinawa City Flower Gardening Production Association. Plants and flowers will not only be exhibited, but will be offered for sale. Farmer-vendors will be selling gardening products including flowers, tropical fruits, landscape gardening trees, foliage plants and Bonsai, all for low prices. They’ll be putting up plants from exhibiting dealers for a Charity Auction Saturday, June 16th, at 2 p.m.

Organizers say they expect more than 30,000 to visit the market during the ten days. To get to the market, from Kadena Air Base Gate 3, go straight toward Chibana Housing and Camp Shields. At Route 329, the market is on the left, just before the intersection.
