Date Posted: 2000-01-22

Since Monday, January 10th, a training class for G8 Summit tour guide volunteers has been going on. The class is operated twice a week, on Mondays and Saturdays, at Meio University in Nago City. The course will continue till the date of February 28th.

95 people, including 25 foreigners, have been participating in the course as of January 14th.

The training course offers participants lessons on Okinawan geographical features, its economic and political situation, Okinawan culture, art crafts and performing arts. All of the classes are given in English so that the participants can acquire better understanding of communication in the English language. Only people who are registered as volunteers can take this training course. Applications for this particular class and language volunteer groups were opened a few months ago. Now, only applications for other voluntary activities, excluding language volunteers, will be received at the Nago Citizensí Summit Promotion Council.
