Public invited to view Chatan water purification plant

Chatan Town’s water purification plant and seawater desalination center are now open, and the general public’s invited to take a first-hand look at how the facilities will serve the community.

The Open House is slated for Sunday, 10 a.m. ~ 6 p.m., and will include a visit by both the Okinawa Prefectural Enterprise Bureau and Miss Okinawa. The Okinawa Prefectural Enterprise Bureau will oversee the water purification and seawater desalination center opening, showing how the plant will safely pr
oduce tasty water. There will be a band performance, a rally and water tastings.

The event is free, and no reservations are required. The plant is located at the Sunabe Seawall. To visit, take Highway 58 to Chatan Town, then turn toward Sunabe Seawall at the traffic light by Toyo Hanten Chinese Restaurant. The entrance to theplant is at the end of the road.

Waterworks Week runs June 1st ~ 7th with the theme ‘Water and vitality appear from the faucet every day’. The water works week seeks to make residents more aware of the importance of pure water. This will be the 54th Waterworks Week. Aside from Sunday, visitors are welcome at the plant, but reservations must be made in advance, in Japanese.
