Yanbaru Relaxation Forest opens doors in NagoDate Posted: 2012-06-01 ![]() Yanbaru Relaxation Forest is home to the Cyathea lepiferus, also known as the Flying Spider-monkey Tree Fern. The fern is in abundance in the forest, the only virgin forest of cyathea in Okinawa. From the promenade visitors can look into the forest and enjoy seeing Okinawa’s native creatures and colorful flowers. The facility is well stocked with restaurants and foods, starting with a basement level café, Haworth Forest, in the cyathea park. On the first floor, visitors can take in barbeque and Okinawa cuisine, homemade soba noodles and other traditional dishes at Restaurant Ikoi. Terrace Amahaji sells snack-type foods. There’s also a barbeque restaurant on the second floor of the building. No relaxation forest would be complete without a cool café that offers locally produced sweets, and Café Haas and Tea house Yukura serve just those. There’s also a souvenir section with Okinawan original sweets prepared with ingredients from Okashi Goten. The store also sells folk art and crafts products. Yanbaru Relaxation Forest is located at Nakayama in Nago City. Entry to the facility is ¥500 for adults, ¥300 for children (age 4 to 15), open daily 9:00 - 18:00 (17:30 last entry). A glimpse of the facility is available on the Japanese-only website http://www.yanbaru-ikoi.com. |
