Four-year Golden Kings veteran wins BJL MVPDate Posted: 2012-05-25 McHenry was chosen 2011-2012 Playoff MVP by virtue of his performance in the Ryukyu Golden Kings’ 89-73 rout of the league defending champion Phoenix. “It was a little bit sweeter to beat those guys,” said McHenry of the game, which was a re-match against the Phoenix, which beat Okinawa in last year’s championship tilt in Tokyo’s Ariake Colosseum. “They’re a great team,” he said of the Phoenix. “You’ve got to give them credit.” Once he said that, he turned his attention back to his own teammates. In the first game of the Final Four, the former Georgia Tech star dumped in 16 points while accumulating eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block as the Golden Kings beat the Yokohama B-Corsairs in the Eastern Conference Final. McHenry praised his teammates, and says team work is his only focus when on the court. “I’ve never considered myself to be a go-to player,” explained McHenry Sunday night. “I think it shows in the way that I play. On any given night I can score points, get rebounds, assists, steals or blocks. It just doesn’t really matter.” The four-year Golden Kings veteran says “I’m more of a player that just wants to go out and do what it takes to win. Tonight it was points, but it could have been any of those other categories, and I think a lot of the players on this team are the same way.” McHenry was so excited about the Golden Kings’ second BJL Championship, and his being chosen MVP, he forgot to take his MVP trophy with him when he left the interview table. He had to be reminded to return and pick it up. (Photo Okinawa Times) |
