Schwab launches military festivals season

Date Posted: 2012-05-25

A modern rock band, entertainment for everyone from one to 100, and a variety of foods are in store for visitors this Saturday and Sunday as Camp Schwab unveils the military’s summer of festivals.

The 6th annual Camp Schwab Festival opens its doors from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday outside the Beachhead. The 2012 Schwab Fest is open to both SOFA personnel and local nationals, with free shuttle buses providing transportation to and from designated parking lots on Camp Schwab. Taxis and a daiko taxi service will also be available.

Headlining on center stage Saturday will be Candlebox, a popular Seattle-based band formed in 1993. Their music is a mix of rock, post-grunge, indie and other elements. Candlebox is playing on Okinawa exclusively for the Schwab Festival.

The Schwab Festival will have a variety of game booths, as well as a Kiddie Land and numerous food stands showcasing both Okinawan and American foods. There will also be an open 6-on-6 soccer tournament on the Schwab softball field both days.

Marine Corps Community Services organizers advise that pets, outside alcohol, coolers and bottles are not allowed at Schwab Fest.
