Veterinary Fees 20% Higher on Kadena

Date Posted: 2000-01-15

Since Monday, January 10th, the Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) on Kadena Air Base has been applying new fees on all its goods and services. A 20% hike is being implemented for veterinary care for privately owned animals of SOFA-status personnel. According to a press release from the Army Public Affairs office, the fee increase has the approval of the Japan District Veterinary Commander, the NAF Council and the Commander of the 18th Services Squadron.

Kadena’s VTF operates solely on non-appropriated funds (NAF), which means that improvements on the facility, equipment purchases, maintenance, repair, and civilian staff salaries must be paid for by clients. The recent fee increase therefore appears necessary, in order to provide quality care for privately owned animals and assure a balance between revenues and expenses. The VTF now has some 15.000 clients, more civilian personnel, and a $150.000 expansion and renovation project will be launched in March 2000 to increase clinical space and improve client convenience.

For more information on the new fees, contact the VTF @ 634-0705.
