Tranquility rules Bios on the Hill Night Tour 2012

Date Posted: 2012-05-12

Bios on the Hill, a combination orchids garden in a subtropical forest and a botanical garden is expanding its appeal, opening in the evenings and offering night tours.

Bios on the Hill considers itself a place “serving peace of mind and emotions”, where guests wander through the gardens during the day, then taking in the Lake on the Hills, a tranquil setting where customers can enjoy their excursion on a lake viewing boat and strolling the Hills by a buffalo-drawn cart while relaxing.

Adding to the enjoyment opportunities, Bios on the Hill is now open evenings, and holding night tours for a limited period in order to offer visitors a chance to enjoy a different form of the hill from daytime and allow them to experience Bios on the Hill’s nocturnal nature setting. Visitors can view fireflies as main pastime, or view the living and changing styles of other small animals and plants at night. There’s a two-hour tour with presentations, an unforgettable opportunity for visiting nature and the natural forest and animals.

The evening schedule runs Saturday and Sunday, starting May 19th, and running through June 24th. Visitors should plan to enter the park at 6:30 p.m., plenty of time to relax until the tours begin at 7 p.m. First come the fireflies, a mini-lesson, and then to the harbor after setting bug traps. The night cruise begins at dusk. A guided tour at Bios on the Hill comes next, a chance to see the bugs gathered in the traps during a stroll in the hills with staff members. There’ll also be a chance to see imago and larva of the fireflies before the tour ends at 9 p.m.

Admission is ¥1,500 for adults and kids over 13, and ¥1,000 for children 4 ~ 12. Those under age four are free, but the lake viewing boat seats are available, and those children must sit on parents’ laps. Children without a guardian are not allowed to enter.

The night tours are by reservation only. Reservations are accepted 9 a.m. ~ 5 p.m. by telephone (098) 965-3400, or Fax: (098) 965-1935.

Visitors are encouraged to wear light clothing and put on light shoes because of the walks. Insect repellent spray and rain gear are also encouraged. Night tours begin promptly at 7 p.m., and those arriving late may be denied participation. Baby seats and wheelchairs are not permitted. As these are evening tours, there are few lights in order to view the fireflies. Bios on the Hill reminds parents that children are their responsibility. Adverse weather conditions such as typhoons will result in night tour cancellations.

To get to the Bios on the Hill, take Highway 58 north from Kadena. After passing Renaissance Resort take the road towards Ishikawa, and then immediately to the right. Watch for a sign to the right pointing to the Bios on the Hill and Okinawa Royal Golf Course, and follow signs to the Bios on the Hill. There is plenty of free parking available by the entrance to the park.
