Treehouse restaurant draws customers with Aguu Shabu-ShabuDate Posted: 2012-05-04 ![]() ![]() Gajumaru, which has long specialized in Shabu-Shabu dishes, is built on top of a man-made Malayan banyan tree next to Okinawa Budokan Hall and Cellular Baseball Field, easily visible when heading towards Naha from the airport. Gajumaru prides itself on using Okinawan ingredients for its dishes whenever possible, such as seasonal Okinawan vegetables, and special Okinawan brand pork, called “Ryukyu-Aguu“. The Ryukyu-Aguu used for Gajumaru Shabu-Shabu is famed for its tastiness and flavor. The diagnostic character of the pork is less fats of any kind, and less cholesterol than normal pork, and it contains vitamin B1 and other savory components. Gajumaru serves another special brand pork, called “Ryuka-ton” in addition to “Ryukyu-Aguu“. “Ryuka-ton” is similar to Ryukyu-Aguu in such aspects as less all fats and cholesterol than normal pork, and it is tasty and healthy. The Luncheon Ryuka-ton Shabu-Shabu set goes for ¥980, while the Ryukyu Aguu Shabu-Shabu luncheon set costs ¥2,380. The treehouse restaurant also features a daily lunch set for ¥880, with different set each day. Kids lunch sets are ¥650. Gajumaru’s All-You-Can-Eat course uses either the Ryukyu-Aguu or Ryuka-ton, and is available both on dinner and lunch. The dinner sets at Gajumaru are more extensive, with the Ryukyu Aguu Course starting from ¥3,680 and the Ryuka-ton Course from ¥1,980. The restaurant offers side orders, including an Aguu Hamburger for ¥880, Ryuka-ton Millefeuille Cutlet for ¥780, and Aguu Gyoza for ¥600. Daizo Yoshimoto, the manager of Gajumaru, says “The Ryukyu-Aguu is a very special Okinawan brand pork, and I hope you experience the pork at least once while staying in Okinawa.” He notes that “Because Aguu is hard to get in large quantities, it may be sold out some times, but the pork’s savory components and sweetness is really high grade. Gajumaru serves the pork cheaper than other restaurants.” Gajumaru has other dishes besides Shabu-Shabu, with a menu such as Japanese cuisine, Okinawan cuisine, hamburger, grilled chicken, and a Kids’ menu. The lunch sets include rice, salad buffet, soup, appetizer and drink. There’s also a grilled chicken set and a hamburger set that uses Aguu- pork, and Okinawan cuisine set such as Taco-Rice or Today’s Champuru- set and more. At dinner time, the All-You-Can-Eat course of the brands’ pork also includes Japanese cuisine, Okinawan cuisine, side dishes and alcohol. Of course, the most charming points of Gajumaru are their form and location. Nothing surrounds Gajumaru because the restaurant is above an open space and on the top of big concrete tree. The spectacular location provides a perfect forum to view beautiful sunsets, an ocean view of Naha port and night view of the Naha city from open spaces of the restaurant. The ambience is very good, so, Yoshimoto recommends dining with friends or families that come from overseas. Gajumaru has an English menu not only dishes, but also advice how-to-eat Shabu-Shabu, so customers can comfortably experience Shabu Shabu even when eating it first time. The entrance to Gajumaru is by an elevator that is inside the tree trunk. Free parking is available just behind the tree. Business hours of Gajumaru are11:30 a.m. ~ 3:30 p.m. for lunch, and 5:30 p.m. ~ midnight for dinner. Gajumaru is located near Highway 58, near Cellular Stadium in the Onoyama district of Naha city.
