Okinawan artists join Donavon in Koza Concert

Date Posted: 2012-05-04

Singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter is bringing his new album on a Japan Tour, stopping in Okinawa to perform a FEEL concert with local artists.

The May 14th concert at Music Town Sound Market in Okinawa City brings the California surfer and his fifth album to Okinawa under the FEEL concert title, which he says is an invitation to “meet with everyone who loves the ocean, and do something special. To accomplish that, he has invited David Ralston with Azusa Miyagi, Nayuta and Ururu, Thamii and Matt Grundy to join him on stage.

Donavon explains the FEEL title means “Love music, love the ocean, and let everyone’s feelings be linked by the feel. Without frontiers and walls of the human race,” he says, “lets share a sense of values and spend some time and some space” together. His local partners echo the sense that “we live on this island surrounded by ocean, so let’s spend a splendid time with everyone who loves the ocean.” As part of the concert, a charity sale and collection boxes will be in place as a revival supporting the rebuilding efforts from the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

Fujiya Okinawan frozen sweets will be on sale for ¥250, various Orion beers will be available and attendees can draw lots twice for ¥500 and receive two different Orion beers. All proceeds of the charity sale will be donated to the disaster area through the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The sponsor for the live concert is Tieda Pro Co., Ltd. Representative Director Eisaku Hamabata says a “point worthy of note this time is that Donavan will be playing the first time with Matt Grundy, and new songs will be presented.” He adds that “Donavon and artists participating in this live event love the ocean, and they’re sending a message of feeling, so please join this charity concert to send a big message from a small island.

Following the concert, CD sales and an autograph session will take place. Doors open Monday the 14th at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are ¥3,500 or $40, and ¥4,000 or $45 at the door. Patrons must purchase one drink at ¥500.
