OIST unveils its new auditorium in concert

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University is officially inaugurating its new auditorium this month with a free concert.

British violinists Jack Liebeck and Victoria Sayles will be joined by students in the Instrumental Music Major, the Department of Music of the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, for the Saturday, May 26th, concert. The concert is free, with tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis starting with reservations Monday at 9 a.m. Tickets must be reserved in advance at http://www.oist.jp/concert.

The auditorium is a prominent feature of the new OIST campus located in Onna-son. The concert’s first section will feature ‘The Four Seasons’ by Antonio Vivaldi, as performed by the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts Orchestra, conducted by Professor Takayuki Niwano. The solo violinist will be Assistant Professor Mitsuki Okada.

The second section showcases The Prokofiev Sonata for Two Violins, Op. 56, Partita in E Major for Solo Violin, BMV1006, by J.S. Bach, Sonata in G Minor for Solo Violin, Op 27 No. 1 by Eugene Ysaye, and “Recuerdos de la Alhambra’ by Francisco Tarrega, arranged by M. Marinkovich. The performance will feature British violinists Jack Liebeck and Victoria Sayles.
