Trick art exhibition in progress in Naha Ryubo Dept. Store

It's a mystery! Dinosaurs popping out from pictures and looking like you have been eaten by them.

That’s the essence of a trick art exhibition now under way at the Ryubo Department Store in downtown Naha City. Also featured is a Genie's trap, where one can experience virtual weightlessness world and also get inside your picture frame. The trick art exhibition presents the mysteries of the world inside of the camera frame.

Masashi Hattori is the artist who draws this mysterious trick art world, starting with normal pictures that are then transformed and changed to something else when photographed with a human! There are also some mysterious pictures using human eye illusion, enough to evoke surprise and and make the viewer question his or her own eyes.

Experience Trick Art World at Ryubo, where Hattori’s exhibition is a first in Okinawa. Hattori is an artist born in Aichi Prefecture who, after graduating from Tama Art University in 1987, began creating trick art exhibitions. He has been hosting his trick art exhibitions not only in Japan, but also foreign countries, where he’s gained a lot of media attention.

There’s a lot of fun included during the exhibition, where, for example, 100 great pictures win a ¥1000 value book coupon that can be used at most book stores in Japan. Simply take pictures with funny poses and send it to oubo@ryubo.co.jp with your info about your name, address, and phone number. The great pictures are displaying at the venue until the exhibition ends.

The exhibition is running on the 6th floor of Pallete Ryubo at Naha’s Kokusai Street until May 7th. The venue opens daily at 10:30 a.m. and runs to 7:30 p.m., with last entry at 7 p.m. On the final day May 7th the exhibition will close at 5 pm. Admission for patrons over 15 years is ¥600, while elementary and junior high students are ¥300. Kids under 6 are free to enter.

Visitors to the venue who use the YuiRail monorail on same day, get a ¥100 discount when presenting the monorail ticket. Also running May 3rd – 6th is a big balloon bouncer installed on the 2nd floor outside of Ryubo. Use of the bouncer is ¥300 per person for five minutes. A child can receive a free bouncer ticket when presenting a Trick Art Exhibition ticket. There are additional Golden Week events at Ryubo Department Store, with signage directing visitors to the various activities.
