Kids play promises to be muddy at Kin Festival

Sundayís Tanbo Festival at Nature Mirai Kan in Kin Town isnít your run of the mill Koinobori event, as the kids will be going wild as they splash and play in the mud of a paddy field.

Itís the annual Kin Town Tanbo Fest, an event tailored 1,000% for kids. Parents only have the clean up responsibilities after youngsters frolic in the mud. Kids wear swim suits as they play in the mud on the rice paddy playground. Participation cost is •300 per child, with an additional charge if parents opt to use the paid shower located at the venue for after-mud cleanup. The festival runs 9 a.m. ~ 6 p.m., and will still operate even if it is rainy weather.

Thereís more than just mud at Nature Mirai Kan and the Tanbo Festival. Canoe rides are •1,000 for adults and•500 yen for kids under 5. Thereís a 40-person limit, so organizers recommend arriving early and signing up. Shisa craft making is offered throughout the day, with participation costs from •1,000, making your own Okinawan Slippers, and engraving. There will also be experiences of flowing somen noodle for •300, and craft making with marine materials for •500.

Nature Mirai Kan doesn't have a parking lot, so visitors are asked to please park your car at Kin fishing port and ride the free shuttle bus to the venue. Entry to the venue is free.
