Date Posted: 2012-04-20

A 20-year-old convenience store shoplifter is in jail after pulling off his heist, then causing an injury to a store employee while trying to flee the scene on his motorcycle.

Tatsuaki Sakima had entered a Nanjo City convenience store at 3:40 a.m., then proceeded to stuff three snack items totaling ¥671 in value into his motorcycle helmet. As he was making his getaway, a 25-year-old convenience store employee who tried to stop him was injured. Yonabaru Police say the store employee had grabbed Sakima’s motorcycle as he was taking off, and was dragged injuring both his knees.

Police say there were only three people in the store, including Sakima, at the time of the shoplifting incident. Sakima, a technical student, has admitted to the charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury.
