Italian products festival makes way to Ryubo

Date Posted: 2012-04-20

A taste of southern Europe is available on Okinawa through Monday, with 38 specialty shops—23 featuring Italian foods and 15 Italian goods and crafts—at Ryubo Department Store in downtown Naha City.

The weeklong Italian Products Festival is the 6th such exhibition featured by the popular department store located at the southern end of Kokusai Street. The festival is operating daily 10:30 a.m. ~ 7:30 p.m., although the closing Monday, the last day, will be at 5 p.m.

Chef Tsutomu Ochiai, who’s with La Bettola in Tokyo, will be on hand Saturday from 1:30 p.m. ~ 2:30 p.m. giving a demonstration on how to cook a casual Italian style pasta. It all ties in with a special cooking and talk show hosted by Ochiai.

The Eat-In Corner at the festival will feature Ochiai’s Italian specialties each day from 11 a.m. ~ 7 p.m., with last orders at 6:30 p.m. through Sunday, and through 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

True Italian style espresso whipped up by professional barista, will be featured at the Italian Products Festival, and event organizers say the varieties of sweets, pasta, wines, Italian foods, Italian crafts and sundries are “beyond words”.
