Momenbaru serves Chinese with Okinawa twist

Date Posted: 2012-04-13

A restaurant that serves original Chinese-style dishes with a special Okinawa touch? And all that with a spectacular view of the beach?

Momenbaru restaurant is the answer, located just outside the back gate of Torii Station in Yomitan. Besides serving traditional orthodox Chinese dishes, Momenbaru often gives them local flavor by using Okinawan ingredients. In addition to Chinese dishes, Momenbaru serves light meals including pizzas, sandwiches and toast.

Many regular customers call Momenbaru, which just celebrated its first anniversary on April 5th, the “Beach Walk Restaurant” because of its location, which is really unique with its beautiful ocean view spreading out in front of terrace seats. The restaurant is on the first floor of an apartment building named “Beach Walk.”

Sunsets on clear evenings are particularly breathtaking. The unique location is just what restaurant proprietor Takeru Koja is proud of, stating “Here is the restaurant with the best ocean view in Okinawa. Come and have a good time and eat our tasty dishes with soothing sounds or waves as the background music.”

Momenbaru serves meals throughout the day. Lunch-time begins at 11:30 a.m. and lasts until 2:30 p.m. when it’s the time to switch to café mood. During lunch-hours customers can choose from six different Chinese dishes. The lunch also includes a soft drink, salad, soup and rice. Main dishes change every week, so customers don’t have to stick with the same choices. The salad, rice and soup are served buffet style, and seconds are allowed.

The café-time runs from 2:30 to 5 p.m. when light meals such as sandwiches and pizza with coffee or cold drink are served. Café time also features a special dessert that is not available at other times.

Dinner-time starts from 5 p.m. All dinners also include rice, soup and salad. This is also the time to enjoy the beautiful sunset and gorgeous night view of Itoman and Naha lights over the ocean later on.

The newest addition at Momenbaru is breakfast on weekends that began a few weeks ago. It is served from 8 a.m., but only on Saturdays and Sundays. The breakfast menu includes sandwiches, pizza and toast. A special menu is prepared for kids.

As is suitable for a true family restaurant, Momenbaru does not forget the family pets; they’re allowed on the terrace and outside lawn seating. Now that’s a good way to start a family weekend with a walk on the beach followed by a breakfast to all, Rover including.

All menus are available in English. Momenbaru is open from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays except Mondays, with the last order at 10 p.m. Weekend hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to Sunset on Sundays. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, and will be closed on April 15th.
