Custom bike show set for Itoman Bibi Beach

Date Posted: 2012-04-06

More than 150 custom motorcycles will be rolling onto Bibi Beach in Itoman city Sunday for an exhibition that coincides with a beach opening event.

The event organizer, Shigeto Arakaki, says that Okinawa doesn’t have enough public transportation like mainland Japan, leading most people in Okinawa to have their own vehicles. “That's why there are lot of unique custom vehicles here, more than in other prefectures I think,” he pondered for quite a while. For those reasons, there are many custom shops for cars or motorcycles in Okinawa, and that creates a lot of custom contests of vehicles or cars in Okinawa.

Arakaki thinks customizing skills on vehicles “are inevitably increasing, and that makes everything more attractive to people in Okinawa, too. I hope a lot of people will come to see the various unique motorcycles and scooters.” He points out even foreigners have a fun with the beach opening at Bibi Beach, and encourages them to look around Itoman city, and then stick around Itoman to learn about its citizens.

The event is tied to the Bibi Beach opening on Sunday. Entry fee for the custom bike show is ¥500 for adults and high school and junior high school students, and free for those under junior high school age.
