Yellow sand spotted in Okinawa, KyushuDate Posted: 2012-04-06 On its website, the Japan Meteorological Agency says the sand has moved into Japan carried by unusually strong westerly winds blowing through the region. The sand is reported in Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, as well as parts of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The sand affects visibility and noticeably dirties laundry and other items. The JMA says sand comes from deserts blown across the sea from inland China. Yellow sand is expected to continue intermittently, and the agency says it will continue to take readings throughout the spring and summer seasons. |
