Top-class womens soccer match this Saturday

Date Posted: 2012-03-23

Women’s soccer fans in Okinawa will have a feast this Saturday, when INAC Kobe Leonessa of Japan faces the Sky Blue team of the U.S. at Okinawa Comprehensive Sports Park in a match that promises to be unrivaled among soccer matches ever seen in Okinawa.

The Japanese team, INAC Kobe Leonessa is a two-time champion in the Japanese women’s pro leagues. The team has also contributed many players to the Japanese national squad that won the Women’s Soccer World Cup title in 2011.

The runner-up that year was the U.S., and equally, the New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC has produced many players who have gone to play in the U.S. national squad.

The kick-off will take place at 4 p.m. and tickets are available at all FamilyMart convenience stores costing ¥2,000 in advance, and ¥2,500 on the day of the match for adults. Tickets for elementary and junior high school students cost ¥1,000 in advance and 1,500 respectively. Younger children come in for free in the company of a parent or guardian.

The event is commemorating the 40th onniversary of Okinawa Reversion to Japan, and also marks the 25th anniversary of Okinawa FamilyMart.

Something as a warm-up event, FC Ryukyu, Okinawa’s soccer team takes on Sagawa Printing SC at the same venue starting at noon. Tickets to that event cost ¥1,000 for adults, ¥500 for junior high school students. Elementary school; students and younger kids are free.

As the parking at the Comprehensive Park is rather limited, organizers urge spectators to use public transportation whenever possible.
