Participants sought to 2-on-2 Dance Battle

Date Posted: 2012-03-23

We need not rely on reckless words projected at a high volume to resolve disputes, and we do not need to point our fingers at our foe, prompting an unbecoming facial expression.

Those are the sentiments of break dancers, who are attracting new, more diverse audiences for the 2-on-2 dance battles. Dancers say “We do not need to throw a vase against the wall or write a defacing blog. A civilized 21st century citizen does not engage in fisticuffs over spilt cream. No, they assemble an audience, stretch, locate a boom box and commission a freestyle dance battle. There comes a point where head spins, extra joints and the ability to resemble a robot simply outweigh vocabulary.”

Whether a reader’s forte is in breaking, poppin, krumping, jerking, stepping or anything in between, you and your dance partner can congregate with other teams to discuss and debate the current issues with bodily movements—owing each other money, politics, or who ate the last slice of pizza. One can only accuse and deny so many times—eventually a final decision will be made, in the regal court of jive.

The bottom line, says Marine Corps Community Services, is that the 2-on-2 Freestyle Dance Battle is coming up on Saturday, April 7th at Thirsty’s on MCAS Futenma, and MCCS is currently looking for dancers. The deadline to register is March 31st. There will be over $1000 in cash and prizes awarded.

This is a FREE event open to anyone 18 and older with an access to MCAS Futenma. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the battle starts at 9 p.m. For more information, call MCCS Entertainment at 645-5821 or find MCCS online on Facebook or mccsokinawa.com/entertainment.
