Multi-cultural Cooking Fair Sunday

Date Posted: 2012-03-16

It promises to be a tasty Sunday at the Nago City International Friendship Hall, where foreigners, students studying in Okinawa and pre-college students from eleven nations put culinary skills to work in the 15th World Home Cooking Fair.

The event, says the 15th World Home Cooking Fair executive committee office, offers a foothold toward deeper understanding between residents, taking the challenge to the stomach. Eating is special, and the fair doles out dishes not from first class restaurants, but meals that everyone makes at home and eats daily. It’s international mingling at a citizens’ level, officials say, and it brings together participants from Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Korea, China, New Caledonia, Philippines, and Thailand. Also participating for the first time, as the Okinawa Technical College team, are students from Cameroon, Laos and Sri Lanka.

The three-hour event starts at noon at the Nago City International Friendship Hall and parking lot, sponsored by the Nago City International Friendship Association.
