Plaza House hosting 4-day Arts & Crafts Fair

Okinawa City’s Plaza House Shopping Center’s the place to be over the next four days as the 10th Okinawa City Arts & Crafts Fair offers a variety of hands-on experiences, demonstrations, exhibitions and sales.

The fair opens this morning and every morning through Sunday at 10 a.m., and runs until 8 p.m. Instrument making demonstrations by Chura-oto Studio Joseph, Sculpture by studio Woodel Idol, and papermaking by hand paper-making studio Sho-Shi-An are a centerpiece of the Okinawa City Arts & Crafts Fair. The public is invited to personally get involved in making things with their hands. Textiles, papermaking, bingata, bamboo and nostalgic propeller planes powered by rubber bands will all be taught by Okinawa City artisans.

Throughout the Arts & Crafts Fair there will be a sale on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the Plaza House Shopping Center, featuring works by 64 famous local art and craft studios. Exhibitions are free at the 3rd floor Global Gallery. Featured are select works for ‘Craft in Okinawa City’, drawn from the Okinawa City Craft Art Contest.

Also featured will be instruction by Okinawa City arts and crafts artisans at the first floor collaboration corner. Look for the Kaori Chibana ‘Basic Course’ training completion exhibition, and mark the calendar for Saturday at 1 p.m. for the fair’s auction.
