Drowning victim found near his car at port

Date Posted: 2012-03-15

The body of a middle-aged man was found in Onoyama Fishing Port waters following reports to a police emergency number of a empty car parked with a fishing rod nearby.

Police, firefighters and the Nakagusuku Coast Guard responded to the 110 call in the Tamagusuku district of Nanjo City after getting the call that “a car has been stopped in the port since this morning. There’s a fishing rod, but nobody in the car or nearby.” The body was discovered about six meters from the fishing port’s shore protection wall in water about four meters deep.

The body had all clothes on, and no injury marks. Police identified the man as a 58-year-old from Naha City. Police say the man had told his family “I’m going fishing to Onoyama” earlier in the morning. A judicial autopsy was convened to determine cause of death, but for now, Yonabaru Police are investigating the death both as an accident and a crime.
