Knife-wielding robber strikes Naha pharmacy

An unemployed Naha City man has been arrested and charged with breaking into a pharmacy in Naha’s Higawa district, where he brandished a fruit knife and thrust it at the breast of the female manager.

Police are charging 63-year-old Morikazu Uehara with attempted robbery after he threatened the woman and demanded money. Uehara has confessed to the crime.

A policeman who was near the pharmacy and witnessed the incident rushed to the scene, where he arrested Uehara on the spot. Police say there were no customers in the pharmacy at the time of the 1:40 p.m. robbery attempt, and that the manager was not injured.
