Hit-and-run accident slightly injures school girl

Date Posted: 2012-03-15

A seven-year-old girl is reported in good condition after being struck by a car, which then fled the scene of the accident.

Uruma Police say the 5:30 p.m. incident occurred on a straight stretch of Prefectural Road 224 in Uruma City’s Nakamine district, with the car crashing into the first grade elementary school student who reportedly rushed out onto the road. The girl suffered injuries, including blows on her right elbow and right knee, but authorities say none of the injuries are life threatening.

The driver of the car, Uruma Police say, got out of the vehicle after hitting the girl, but was told by the youngster she was okay, and he took off from the scene. Police are investigating the incident as a violation of the Japan Road Traffic Law’s clause of not declaring an accident.
