Isagawa Town Organizes Calligraphy Event

The 15th annual “Children’s Calligraphy Event_ was held in the Isagawa district of Nago City, on the January 5th. Children from ages 4 to 15 gathered for an instructional talk about the craft of traditional Japanese calligraphy. The Organization for Children's Welfare of Nago City assigned the children to write about the year 2000. The event was held at Isagawa town hall, where thin white pieces of calligraphy paper had been laid on the floor for the children to freely begin writing their own thoughts. They were given thick paintbrushes and a case of black “sumi_ ink. Boldly painted phrases included words like “a peaceful first day_ and “my plans for this new year."
