Big Up Dancehall meets Soca DJ Shadow

Big Up Dancehall is up to something special this weekend as the Soca DJ Shadow Double Tree International brings his dancehall, hip hop and Soca fused mixes to the Nest in Music Town.

Shadow, who hails from Brooklyn, New York, heads the star-studded evening as the primary guest deejay. Fire Squad, Okinawan DJs best known for their killer vibes and parties, are long established on the reggae scene as both deejays and selectors. Fire Squad is one of the leading figures in the Okinawan Reggae scene, and has also collaborated with known Jamaican deejay Jah Life.

The Big Up Dancehall is normally an event held the first Saturday of each month at Jam Rock, a Reggae bar owned by Fire Squad on Highway 58 across from Camp Fosterís Commissary Gate, but this event shifted to a larger venue. Entry is free for ladies until 1 a.m. Admission for men is •1,500, and •1,000 for women after 1 a.m. Doors open and the event gets under way at 11 p.m.

Jah Life, a local Okinawa-Jamaican crew composed of Rudy, Bigger, and King David, travels around the island to perform, while DJ Rocky is a young, up and coming DJ with 10 years experience spinning Hardcore Dancehall. The event is geared to provide a full evening of Caribbean and West Indies music, appealing to reggae lovers of all ages.
