K-Pop Special Coming to AuCellular Stadium

Date Posted: 2012-02-24

A skillful blend of musical genre and drama come together next weekend at Okinawa’s first K-Pop Special World Music Festival in Okinawa.

The live event on Sunday, March 4th, centers on a live concert performance by well known Korean composer Oh Joon Sung, and the K-Pop sounds of a half-dozen top Korean musicians and groups. Oh Joon Sung, known for both Korean drama and motion picture music, arrangement and performances, headlines the first segment of the live concert at Okinawa Cellular Stadium.

The World Music Festival in Okinawa marks a first in musical mixes in Japan, bringing together a Korean drama concert for the first time, and the live K-Pop for the first time in Okinawa. The stage collaboration presenting Oh Joon Sun & Green Cacao and the Ryukyu Symphony Orchestra promises some dramatic moments. Joining Oh Joon Sung in the first element will be Monday Kiz. Monday Kiz is a boys group comprised of three young singers who’ve gained popularity not only through K-Pop, but also involvement with original Korean drama sound tracks.

The K-Pop sound features Kara, 2PM, Infinite, Rainbow, Secret and ZE-A, well known performers on Asian music circuits. Each brings something a bit different to the concert stage. Kara, with three albums since first coming out with ‘The First Blooooming’ in March 2007 in Kora, now has the hit dance song Mister. 2PM has won Artist of the Year honors at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, and is billed as the best in Asia, attracting 100,000 to an arena concert last December.

Rainbow is following in Kara’s footsteps, releasing single ‘A’ in Japan last September. The group’s seven girls are defined as having the diverse talents of a rainbow. Secret entered the music scene last year with top hits, and Infinite’s seven members chosen through an audition debuted their first single in Japan last November. ZE:A is an allbow group that charms fans with wildly charismatic performances.

K-Pop, for the uninitiated, is a musical genre blending pop, dance, electropop, hip hop, rock, R&B and electronic music. The style originated in Korea, and has spread across Asia, picking up fans through not only the music itself, but through Facebook, iTunes, Twitter profiles and UTube music videos.

Doors at Okinawa AuCellular Stadium open at 3 p.m. March 4th, with the concert beginning at 6 p.m. Promoters say there will be no delays or postponements because of rain.

Tickets are available at FamilyMart convenience stores for standing only and cost ¥6,800. Tickets for other seats are sold as a tour package only. H.I.S. Travel arranges bus tours that include the bus fare and concert ticket from either Koza or Mihama that costs $190 for A-seats, $210 for S-seats and $236 for SS-seats. The price also includes an official gift.
