New type flea market started in Ginowan

Date Posted: 2012-02-22

A new way of shopping for a car has been put to the test at a Used Car Flea Market at a public parking lot in Futenma, Ginowan City.

The flea market was billed as a ‘first’ for Okinawa, drawing a lot of people for the event coordinated by Prosumer, a company managing the event. “If you demand a car sold by a dealer, you can’t sell at the requested price,” says Ryota Sakima, the Prosumer president. “With internet auctions,” he says, “there may be trouble because you can’t see the car. I want to offer a place to actually see a car, and then the price is decided by direct negotiation.”

Ten cars were exhibited at the first flea market, with each of the cars on display having first been checked in advance by a mechanic to be sure they were in good running condition. Prosumer says it plans to advertise and hold flea markets at the Ginowan parking lot at least once a month in the future.
