High-end resort to open on TaketomiDate Posted: 2012-02-08 Developers say their design takes into special consideration the island’s landscape, which is designated as a Japan Important Historic Buildings Preservation District. The Hoshinoya Taketomi Island Resort will have 50 red-tile wooden cottages and a pool on an eight-hectare site. Hoshinoya has invested more than ¥3 billion on the project, which will provide employment for 60~75, with half being drawn from the local community. Room rates will start at ¥27,000 per person per night, a price officials say will support the resort’s goals of a 70% average occupation rate. The resort company says more than half of the available reservations are already filled for regular lodging operations, which begin November 1st after two months start-up operations for existing clientele. The company says it will be changing the name of Kohama Resort & Spa Nira-Kanai on Kohama Island, to that of the company that took over operations last year. The resort’s new name will carry the brand Resonare starting April 1st. |
