French Mercure Hotel to open in Naha City

A French hotel group is preparing to unveil its first hotel in Okinawa, with Mercure Hotel to open in April.

The French Accor Hotels Group and AAPC Japan based in Tokyo will open the 14-story hotel in April in front of the Tsubogawa Monorail Station in downtown Naha City. The building is owned by Chuo Mitsui Trust Bank of Tokyo since last year, and Accor is working with an assets and operations agreement. Mercure Hotel will have 260 guest rooms, a restaurant, reception hall and parking for 144 vehicles.

Accor operates a high-end hotel chain of 4,000 hotels in 90 countries, with operations centered in Europe. The Okinawa hotel is Accor’s 11th in Japan. The 13,082 sq.m. building was constructed starting in August 2009 by information service company CSK Holdings. Lanica Consolidated Company, a CSK company, owned the land and building and initially promoted a hotel operation, but it never opened.
