Hilton to take over Sol Vita Hotel in Naha City

Date Posted: 2012-02-03

Hilton Hotels Worldwide will return to Okinawa later this spring, taking over the Sol Vita Hotel in downtown Naha City and transforming it into a Double Tree by Hilton.

The change will take place in late April or early May, transforming the 228-room Sol Vita into the latest Double Tree, a hotel brand that now has some 230 locations in 23 countries. Hilton officials say they’ve not established exact room rates yet, but indicate they’ll stay at roughly the same ¥8,000 per night, as they seek more than 70% of the annual guest room operating rate in Naha City.

Sol Vita, which was constructed on the site of the old Monaco casino, is owned by AVS Company. Etsuko Azborn says “the hotel will be the newet global brand hotel in Naha City,” adding “I believe firmly that the hotel will be attractive both for people visiting for leisure or for business. Azborn says the building and land will remain under AVS ownership, noting there will be no major renovations prior to the name change and reopening.

Azborn says the new management will keep the current staff. Double Trea by Hilton operates in Japan as a hotel chain with fewer restaurants and meeting rooms, compared to hotels under the Hilton name. Double Tree by Hilton says family users are its main overseas customers.
