Suspicious fires have Naha thinking arson

Date Posted: 2012-02-01

Three fires of suspicious origin within hours of each other in Naha City’s Kohagura district have fire officials thinking an arsonist could be operating in the city.

Naha Police have joined the investigation of the fires. The first was Sunday at 2:10 a.m. when a plastic electric signboard was partially destroyed at a pastry shop. As officials were dealing with that fire, a second was reported about 150 meters away. A motorized bicycle parked in an alley in front of an apartment building was burning. It was extinguished about 2:30 a.m.

A few hours later, a 110 call was received from another Kohagura location, this time a report that “there is a fire in a parking lot” next to an apartment building. Police say the fire burned building materials that had been kept in the parking lot.
