Air China launches new Naha service

Date Posted: 2012-01-27

Direct flights between Naha and Beijing are now a reality as the best known of China’s airline companies, Air China, inaugurated service this month.

Some 141 passengers were aboard the maiden flight, the first for Air China to Okinawa. “This year is memorable in that it is the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China,” Vice Governor Yoshiyuki Uehara told the tourists. “I’m very glad that you are visiting Okinawa at such a time, and hope that you create special memories for this trip.”

Service between China’s capital and Okinawa has been taking place on a twice weekly basis the past few months, with service provided by China’s smaller Hainan Airlines. The Air China route is using Boeing 737-800 aircraft that can carry 162 passengers. The twice a week service will be Wednesdays and Sundays.

Incoming flights will depart Beijing at 8:20 a.m. and arrive in Naha at 12:30 p.m. Departing flights will be at 1:30 p.m., arriving in Beijing at 4:10 p.m.
