Ku-chu Town Caravans planned for this year

Date Posted: 2012-01-27

An event promoting local Okinawa shops, restaurants and stores is being expanded to six times this year in an effort too boost business in the central Okinawa city.

“Ku-chu Town Caravan” will be staged at various parks in Okinawa residential areas, with a goal of creating a positive atmosphere and increase communication among residents. The Ku-chu Town concept was created in Okinawa City in 2007, held on the roof of Korinza Mall. The concept is being expanded to provide residents across Okinawa with a new sense of awareness of what’s available.

Okinawa Texfarm’s executive office has given the plan the green light, setting February 25th as the date for the first Ku-chu Town Caravan event at Uchima West Park in Urasoe City. A spokesman for Texfarm says “we hope everybody will enjoy the events with a light heart, like a promenade.” Since the fist Ku-chu Town in Okinawa City, the event has gained strength, with 25~30 shops joining and participating.

Starting this yar, the event will be held at various residential parks across the island that have an easy access to residents who go walking. The Ku-chu Town Caravans are being designed to meet other residents in the area, increasing the sense of community with activities that include mini-live performances and workshops for children and adults. Okinawa Texfarm is inviting local companies who are interested in engaging in local district services to join the event.

The events will all be free, including the workshops. Organizers estimate that about 700 people will participate in each of the six 2012 events.
