New Child Development Center opens tomorrow

Date Posted: 2012-01-19

A state-of-the-art child development center opens its doors tomorrow with a grand opening ceremony on Camp Foster at 1:30 p.m.

The newly-constructed Ashibina Center is a 14,000 square-foot day care and pre-school facility featuring an 8,000 square-foot playground, eight classrooms, high tech safety surveillance and energy-efficient “green” construction materials and appliances throughout. Large skylights and curved ceilings provide natural lighting and a warm environment. The colorful, child-friendly interior is accented with paintings from acclaimed Okinawa artist Kyoko Nakamoto’s “Paradise Series.”

The facility is designed to accommodate up to 104 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, who will play and learn under the direction and supervision of 60 staff members, including 51 direct care staff. Ashibina Center will open for business Jan. 30.
