Mitsukoshi showcases Niigata products exhibitionDate Posted: 2012-01-13 ![]() ![]() ![]() The 10th Niigata Product Exhibition is under way at Mitsukoshi through next Monday, with 42 companies traveling to Okinawa from the northern prefecture to introduce, demonstrate and sell their seafood, sweets and crafts. Niigata Prefecture is located in the ‘Hokuriku’ region of Japan, a northern area along the Sea of Japan that’s famous for its snow, rice and Nihon-shu, that well known Japanese sake. Sado Island, with its once famous gold mountain known as ‘Sado Kinzan’ is in the area, too, but the mine closed more than two decades ago. Koshihikari is Japan’s most famous rice, or one of them, at least, and it’s the number one product of Niigata Prefecture. The No. 1 Koshihikari rice is on sale at the Niigata Product Exhibition, along with several brands of sake, which is being doled out in samples to tempt people to buy it. Niigata promoters say “if you’ve never tried Japanese sake, please taste it. It’s awesome!” This year’s Nihon-shu is even more special, says the Niigata exhibition press manager, “because it’s a 10th anniversary memorial” drink. The Niigata Product Exhibition is open daily 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for the final day, the 16th, when the exhibition closes at 4 p.m. The event takes place on the 6th floor of Mitsukoshi Department Store in Naha. Mitsukoshi is located on Kokusai Street in downtown Naha City. |
