52-year-old Man Drowns in Ishikawa

Date Posted: 2000-01-08

On December 31st, a 52-year old man was found dead in the ocean around Ishikawa City. A fisherman who went to the fishing port found the man floating and dead. It is assumed that the man drowned and died between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. According to his colleague’s statements, the victim and his colleagues were drinking Awamori (Okinawan Sake) sitting on the benches in front of Fishermen’s Union Office located in Ishikawa Fishing Port. Around 1:00 p.m., his colleagues were all left. But the man who later died by drowning stayed behind and kept on drinking at that place. Later, the fisherman who went to the port just found him breathless and cold. Police officers from Ishikawa Police went to the site immediately, after they received a notification call from the fisherman. Ishikawa Police are presently going with the theory that the man accidentally fell into the ocean under the influence of alcohol.
