Golden Kings ring Fukuoka's bells in Naha

Date Posted: 2012-01-05

The start to 2012 couldn’t have been any better for Dai Oketani and his Ryukyu Golden Kings, who won a pair of holiday games against the Rizing Fukuoka to maintain a grip on first place in the Basketball Japan League’s Western Conference.

Okinawa’s riding a six-game winning streak, and at 19-5, holds the best record in the entire league following the holiday action, which saw the Golden Kings to pull off a 100-90 win in the first of two games against Fukuoka in front of 3625 fans in Naha Gym. Tuesday’s second match was a thriller, with the action all tied up with only eight seconds remaining in regulation play. Narito Namizato was the tie-breaker, firing off a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Golden Kings a 68-65 victory.

Anthony McHenry fired 15 points in the win, adding nine rebounds, while teammates Jeff Newton and Morihisa Yamauchi each had 13 points. Namizato wound up with 12 points, four assists and a half-dozen rebounds.

Once past the All-Star Break, the Golden Kings take to the road once more--a place where they’ve been winning big time—to go against the Shiga Lake Stars at the Yasu City Gym. Those games play out January 21st and 22nd.
