Airman, Marine busted in separate DUI incidents

Date Posted: 2011-12-30

An airman is accused of driving drunk in Chatan Town, while Ginowan City Police have charged a U.S. Marine with drunk driving in their city.

The 28-year-old Kadena airman, Omar Kotch, was apprehended at 6:30 a.m. in Chatan. He’s denied the charges, telling police “I drank a few beers last night, but alcohol’s not remaining” in my system.

Only a few minutes later, a 26-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Foster was involved in an accident on Route 330 in Kitanakagusuku. Raymond Hayes crashed into the rear end of another car, and admitted to that charge while denying he was drunk. “I drank last night”, he told cops, but said alcohol wasn’t a factor in the accident. Ginowan Police said it was after testing Hayes for sobriety. They arrested him and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a violation of the Road Traffic Law.
