ANA puts hold on Boeing 787 Dreamliner debut

Date Posted: 2011-12-30

All Nippon Airways has the world’s only operational Boeing 787 Dreamliner, but has decided to keep the plane off international routes until next month while it waits for a second aircraft to arrive.

The Dreamliner, made of composite materials that are expected to save the world’s airlines millions of dollars in fuel costs, has been repeatedly delayed by construction issues at Boeing. ANA has intended to start flying the state-of-the-art aircraft on flights from Tokyo’s Haneda airport to Beijing this month, but has pushed off the route changes until January 14th, 17th and 18th.

ANA says it expects the second of its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft to arrive from the United Sates in the next week or two.
