Employee suffers burns fighting warehouse fire

Date Posted: 2011-12-30

A 40-year-old supermarket employee suffered minor burns as she tried to help put out a fire in a storage area.

Naha City firefighters responded to the blaze in the Mekaru district about 6:50 a.m. after receiving a call from the store alerting them that there was fire in a warehousing area. While firemen responded, store employees ushered customers and staff out of the building.

Firemen found merchandise in boxes burning, but no immediate word on what started the blaze. The fire department needed less than a half-hour to extinguish the fire. The woman whose right hand was burned was treated at a nearby medical facility.
