Teens fleeing cops crash motorcycleDate Posted: 2011-12-23 The 16-year-old motorcycle driver was ordered by police to stop after he ran through a red traffic signal, but he ignored the red lights and siren and raced away. Less than a minute later, driving along Prefecture Road 241 in Urasoe’s Maeda district, he crashed into the rear of an automobile stopped in the roadway. The cycle driver suffered a broken left arm, while his 16-year-old passenger had a broken ankle. Police say they’d traced the motorcycle about 600 meters before losing sight of it. Moments later they came upon the accident scene, where the cycle had careened off the car and fallen down about 100 meters further away. Police say the teenage driver had no driver’s license, and that the motorcycle had been borrowed from a friend. The boy’s being charged with operating a vehicle without a license, and for ignoring a signal, both violations of the Road Traffic Law. Police say “the chase was aimed for an arrest for ignoring the traffic signal, so there was no problem in the tracking process.” |
