American aces Japanese in Tenkaichi MMA event

Date Posted: 2011-12-23

It was an evening of drama, begun when the two fighters pumped up the audience even before blows were exchanged, each declaring “I will win” the Tenkaichi event at Koza Music Town.

Koji of Joytoy, originally a heavyweight fighter who downsized to enter the welterweight class, was serious about whipping Mike Wimmer, an American MMA fighter with extensive wrestling, ju-jitsu and striking experience. Winner was equally eager to prove himself, and the two waged battle for two rounds before Saturday night’s capacity crowd.

Cheers were non-stop and the audience was on its feet watching the two warriors, both of whom showed no mercy in attacks. Neither went down, and it came down to points. All points, and Mike Wimmer wound up the victor, a happy representative of the Tenkaichi fight program.
