Fruit knife bandit scores nothing

A man brandishing a fruit knife broke into a Naha City home and threatened the occupant as he demanded money, but quickly fled when she told him there was no money.

The 70-year-old woman and her elderly mother were alone in the private residence in Naha Cityís Asato district when the man thought to be in his 20ís broke in the late afternoon, demanding money. Told they had no money, the man turned and ran.

The would-be victim described the man as about 165cm tall, and with a skinny complexion. He was wearing a sky blue and black checkered shirt, black pants and a white mask. The woman called her husband, who then called the police emergency number. Naha City Police are investigating the incident as an attempted robbery.
