Date Posted: 2011-12-16

Naha City Police have a 20-year-old man in custody on charges of breaking into a variety store near Kokusai Street in the city’s Matsuo district, then threatening the manager with a kitchen knife.

Lee Matsushita, a Japanese national whose father is American, struck about 4:30 p.m., brandishing a kitchen knife and making threats in the store. The frightened manager handed over ¥546,000 in cash. Naha Police say Matsushita was identified from surveillance camera photographs and other investigation, leading cops to go pick him up.

Naha Police say they’re still investigating the motive. They found Matsushita in Chatan a day after the robbery and arrested him. Matsushita confessed to police.
